WHAT CAN DRUM SPEED DO FOR YOUR ROAST

There are a lot of thoughts on drum speed if it helps build characteristics in your coffee or not. We at Renegade feel that by the ability to change the drum revolutions per minute you actually control how fast the beans fall in the drum. When you use lower drum speeds it tends to build body in the coffees by having more contact with the drum walls. On higher drum speeds you tend to drop the coffee from the 11 clock position to the 4 clock position in a more rapid rate which keeps the beans from having contact with the drum and cooking the beans at a different rate and adding to the acidity or fruity flavors that you experience in your finished roast.

All roaster manufacturers tend to find a drum speed that is good for their machines and make that a standard for their roaster. Some have added an inverter to allow you to adjust your drum speed but we at Renegade feel it is such an important part of the roast we have made it a part of our software so the machine can make those changes for you and you can concentrate on bean development. Even a 2 RPM change in drum speed can change your internal and external beans and the taste of the cup.
